We start the day’s exploration by going to Stolac, some 35km southeast of Mostar. The Stolac area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and heritage from various cultures and ages can be found here. Of course, we will focus mostly on the Ottoman era. We will visit the town’s “čaršija” (old market), an ottoman house and several other sites from the era, and hear the stories that go with them. Afterwards, we move on to Radimlja.
Radimlja is a stećak necropolis located near Stolac. The Radimlja necropolis is one of the most valuable monuments of the mediaeval period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The majority of its stećak tombstones date from the 1480s through the 16th century, as evidenced by the epitaph on one of the tombstones. These mediaeval tombstones were added to UNESCO World Heritage in 2016.
